1 st and 2 nd Class were Busy Bees!

25th Oct, 2024

1 st and 2 nd class have been very bust during this first half of term!
The new first class have settled in really well and got to know their new
classmates with the help of tuff tray themes for 10 minutes on arrival to
school every morning. This is a really important transition activity for the
children and it gives them an opportunity to catch up with everyone
before the busy day. In first class we allow until half term for the new
children to get used to the new books, schedule and routines. They have
done an amazing job and have become so independent with managing
their belongings and organising themselves throughout the day.
In 1 st and 2 nd Class we enjoy a thematic approach to our learning and we
like to link our subject areas as much as is possible. In the first part of
term we have been learning about ourselves, our family, school, harvest,
the seasons, the weather and Halloween. We like to use stories to enrich
our experiences and we have enjoyed: The Everywhere Bear, Grandads
Island, The Scarecrows Wedding, Room on the Broom, The Paper Dolls
and Stick Man. We have linked our Drama, Art, SESE, Gaeilge, Music
and Literacy by engaging with these stories.
In Maths, we are really enjoying engaging with the new Maths
Curriculum. By using a wide range of materials and methods to explain
how we might work out maths activities.
We have all participated really well in PE activities. GAA, Soccer, Tennis,
Skipping and our very successful Whole School Marathon.
The children are enjoying weekly visits from Fr. Declan and they are
excited to be preparing for their First Penance and First Holy
Communion.
As you can see our first half term has been very busy and enjoyable and
we are looking forward to the break and to the second half of the term.
