5th & 6th Class Have Been Busy

18th Oct, 2024

5th and 6th have had a busy first half of term. We have been having ‘morning meetings’ at the start of each day. Each morning the children rate their energy on a scale of 1-10 and then they answer the question of the day. The questions range from ‘what are you looking forward to at the weekend?’…. ‘what is your favourite thing that is red?’…. ‘should children be allowed treats in their lunchboxes?’ and so on. It is a nice way to start the day and it usually starts an interesting class conversation. It is also a lovely way of making sure all children’s voices are heard in the class.

We have been working hard on our academics. We have been measuring angles using our protractors, using our Irish vocabulary to have conversations on various topics, learning how to write a recount in English. We have learned about artists such as Edvard Munch and Wassily Kandinsky. We learned about ancient and modern Greece and created projects about this fascinating country. We composed acrostic poems. We also learned about the Renaissance and lots more!

We had coaches in for soccer, GAA, tennis and even a skipping workshop. We are looking forward to Gymnastics after Halloween.

5th and 6th class were in charge of selling the produce at this years Harvest Festival. It was a fantastic success and the class all worked really well together.

6th class were chosen to go to Newgrange to pick out the names of the lucky people that will get to go into the chamber at Newgrange for the Winter Solstice.

M Cathy and M Sophie have been helping with station teaching in the class for English and this will continue into the Christmas period.

We are looking forward to the activities that next month will bring!
